Iterative design approach using AI

Inspiration

For the visually impairedI adopted the concept of speculative design and designed two products for comparison.One of them was the control group, where product designers spontaneously thought about and understood a poem and designed a wine rack; the other was the experimental group, where AI continuously iterated and updated the first generation of products designed by designers. The specific process was: converting the previous generation of products into keywords extracted from images in MidJourney, then sending the keywords to ChatGPT to combine with the original poem to create a new poem, and then sending the new poem to Midjourney to create a new generation of products.
I compared and analyzed the results of the two groups and further improved this design iteration method.

According to the above design iteration method, a total of 50 iterations were carried out.

However, a new problem also emerged in this process, that is, the final decision maker of this iteration method is still the designer. Designers play a vital role in the beauty of products and are also responsible for the details of product design. They cannot be replaced by AI at present. Perhaps this is also an interpretation of the role of designers in the context of the current development of AI technology - product designers need to constantly improve their aesthetic level in order to use AI as a tool to make products and make the human world better.
